Art Without Margins was created from the research conducted by the association’s director, Ana Karen G. Barajas, on Outsider Art, Art Brut, singular artistic manifestations, and the follow-up of social inclusion workshops. Ana Karen G. Barajas is a multidisciplinary artist working in visual arts, digital marketing for NGOs, music composition, and art research. She holds a PhD in Social Work and Social Administration from the University of Hong Kong.

For more than ten years she has focused on supporting Neurodivergent (SEN) communities through the arts as a medium for wellbeing, while also promoting pathways for neurodivergent individuals to develop artistic careers. Her work combines research, art workshop facilitation, and exhibition curation. Her research explores art as a tool for both analysis and social wellbeing, particularly in relation to neurodiversity and mental health, including Autism and Schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, within the framework of Outsider Art. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Expressive Art Therapy at IASE Institute in Spain. Ana Karen G. Barajas completed a Master’s in Arts at the University of Guanajuato, where her thesis examined Outsider Art in Mexico. Through this work, she developed an observation-based method for studying these manifestations and compiled expressions of Outsider Art and alternative creative processes across Mexico. She was part of the editorial committee of the journal Bric-à-Brac and has presented her research at a conference at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

As a curator, she has organized exhibitions in Madrid on Guanajuato’s Art Brut and in Paris, including works from the cases identified in her research and included in public collections. She has also collaborated with the Al Matadero sin Miedo program by Debajo del Sombrero in Madrid, and participated in a grant initiative carried out at the occupational center in La Puebla de Cazalla, Sevilla, Spain.
